Simmering tensions between America and China have been headline news since they began to escalate early last year. Less carefully followed, perhaps, are the knock-on effects elsewhere.

Vietnam is among the countries to have felt the benefits of the growing distrust of Beijing among some of the world’s most powerful nations. As it begins to open up its economy, including through privatisations, it is attracting outside investment.
